HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19710208 MTNDTES CF THE ORANGE COUNTX BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 3, qv ~ PAGE 3~j, February 8, 1971 The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session in the Commissioners Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina at 8 o~clock P.M. on Monday, February 8, 1971. Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett, and Commissioners William C, Ray, Henry S, Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker. Members Absent: None `• Also present were Quentin Patterson, II. S, Soil Conservation Agent for Orange County, Bill Thayer, Engineer on the staff oP the U, S. Soil Conservation Service and John Fridgen, Engineer, This meeting was held for the purpose of discussing the preliminary engineering surveq and the general location of the dam site for the Seven Mile Creek reservoir, The Soil Conservation representatives stated that test drillings on the upper site revealed few geologic problems would be encountered and that the upper dam site and the lower dam site was free of faults, Mr, Pridgen presented maps and reported on the topographic survey which his firm was preparing. Discussion ensued. The Board instructed Mr. Pridgen to investigate thoroughly the possibility of locating the dam at the lower site which is nearest highway I-85, however, there is not to be undertaken any sub surface drilling at this location until the Board so authorizes, Quentin Pattarson.atated that there existed, several miles North of Lake Orange, an ideal site for .a wildlife feeding area. He stated that his agency was exploring the possibility of developing this site and that he would periodically be giving a progress report to the Board relative to the sit~~a: There being no further business to some before the Board the meeting was adjourned. Harvey D, Bennett, Chairman 3, M, Gatti s, Acting Clerk MINIITES DF THE ORANGE COIINTY BOARD OF COMMISSxONERS February 22, 1971 The Board of County Commissioners of Orang® County met at 5:30 o~clock P,M, on Monday, February 22, 1971 at the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett and Commissioners Henry S, Walker, Norman Walker and lra A, Ward, Members Absent: Commissioner William C, Ray, The Board approved a road petition for 1500 feet of SR 1831 to the secondary apstem and directed the petition be sent on to the State Highway Department. Ebert Pierce, County Extension Chairman and Quentin Patterson, Soil - Conservation District Agent were present to accompany the Beard members to the annual meetS.ng of the Resources Conservation and Development CommissSon in Reidsville, North Carolina. Principal speaker for the occasion was Charles Bartlett, State Soil Conservationist, At the conclusion of Mr, Bartlett~s presentation, Robert Powell, Area Coordinator for the six counties Resouraea Conservation and Development Program presented a slide showing the projects of the District.
