PURPOSE: To receive proposed 2009-19 Capital Investment Plans (CIP) from Chapel Hill
Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) and Orange County Schools (OCS) Boards of Education.
BACKGROUND: In recent weeks both CHCCS and OCS Boards of Education have discussed
their long-range capital needs. At the time of publication of this agenda, neither Board has
approved their respective plan.
Tonight's work session offers a time for each School Board to share their capital needs for the
years 2009 through 2019 with Commissioners. No decision is expected at this work session. A
public hearing regarding the County and Schools' CIP is scheduled for November 18, 2008 at
the Southern Human Services Center located on Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, NC.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact of funded and unfunded School capital projects will
be presented by each school district during tonight's meeting.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board receive the proposed 2009-19
Capital Investment Plans from Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools and Orange County Schools.
