BACKGROUND: The Governor has proclaimed October as Breast Cancer Awazeness month in North Cazolina. The NC Department of Health and Human Services encourages local counties to plan activities to educate the community about breast cancer and to encourage women to receive mammograms and perform self-breast exams. Health education, screening, outreach, and public awareness events aze scheduled including the distribution of more than 5,000 pink ribbons by volunteers throughout the county.
