BACKGROUND: The Governor has proclaimed October as Senior Vaccinaton Season in North Cazolina. The NC Department of Health and Human Services encourages local counties to plan activities to educate the community about public health. The Calendar of Events provides a list of some of the planned activities in Orange County. Health education, screening, outreach, and public awazeness events aze scheduled. This yeaz the health department has developed a partnership with Kerr Drug at University Ma11 in Chapel Hill. Kerr Drug is hosting the kick-off event on October 9 and October 10. They will be providing pharmacists and pharmacy students both at the Mall and at other events throughout the month far a "brown bag review" of medications that seniors are currently taking. The health department's goal this yeaz is to vaccinate 4,000 seniors in Orange County. FINANCIAL Il~iPACT: The program is part of the approved 1999-2000 health department budget.
