PURPOSE: To contract with the LTNC School of Dentistry for the. services of one dental resident
to staff the dental clinics in Hillsborough and Carrboro.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Health Department (OCHD) annually contracts with the
UNC School of Dentistry for the services of one full-time equivalent dental resident for four and
one-half. days a week. The residents provide services at both the Hillsborough and the Carrboro
dental clinics. The total cost of the contract for July 1, 1999 through June 30, 2000 is $40,077.
This was included in the 1999-2000 departmental budget that was approved in June 1999. This
contract is always executed in the fall since the University waits until the state legislature passes the
budget before the University executes student contracts.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total cost of the contract for July 1, 1999 through June 30, 2000 is
$40,077. This is a 5% increase over the previous year's contract which is due to a 5% cost of living
increase for state employees. This was included as part of the approved 1999-2000 departmental
budget.
RECOMMENDATON(S): The Manager recommends approval of the contract and authorization
of the Chair to sign the contract.
