PURPOSE: To consider authorizing the Purchasing Director to purchase cardio exercise
equipment for the Sportsplex in an amount not to exceed $70,349.
BACKGROUND: On August 19, 2008, the Board authorized the Manager to execute a lease
for cardio equipment for the Sportsplex. The equipment is needed to equip the expanded
space at the Sportsplex made available through the addition of a mezzanine area over the ice
rink. Although the County has worked with the leasing company to develop multiple iterations of
a lease document, none of the options provided will allow the County to rent the equipment
without creating additional debt. Since it is not the intent to impact the County's debt capacity in
any way, staff is recommending the equipment be purchased outright.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funds to support the not-to-exceed $70,349 expenditure are available
within the FY 2008-2009 Sportsplex operating budget.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Purchasing
Director to purchase the cardio exercise equipment for the Sportsplex in an amount not to
exceed $70,349; and authorize the Purchasing Director to execute paperwork necessary to
effect the purchase.
