BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
November 19, 1968
The Orange County Board of County Commissioners met on Tuesday, November
190 1968 at 8:00 P.M. in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in
Hillsborough, North Carolina in adjourned session.
Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett and Commissioners William C.
Ray, Carl M. Smith, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward.
Members Absent: None
This meeting was held for the purpose of discussing with Gene Clark of
Ambulance Service, Inc. the possibility of securing Ambulance service for a
limited portion of Orange County during the 1969 calendar year. No action
was taken in this matter.
Dorothy Gamble, Community Services Coordinator, discussed with the Board
the action being taken by her during the current unrest relative to the school
situation.
Paul Alston, Executive Director of the Joint Orange-Chatham Community
Action Program, discussed with the Board the possibility of continuing the
County's participation in the present community action program.
Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Smith, it
was moved and unanimously adopted that the County appropriate $3,000.00
to this agency for the period of February 1, 1969 terminating on January
31, 1970.
There being no further business to come before the Board this meeting
was adjourned to meet again on Monday, November 25, 1968 for the purpose of
attending the Resource Conservation & Development District meeting which is
scheduled for Hillsborough, North Carolina.

MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
November 25, 1968
The :Orange County Board of County Commissioners met on Monday, November
25, 1968 at 4 P.M, in the lobby of the old Courthouse in Hillsborough,
North Carolina.
Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners William C.
Ray, Henry S. Walker, Carl M. Smith and Ira A. Ward.
Members Absent: None
-'°f This meeting was held for the purpose of hosting jointly with the Orange
County representatives of the Conservation and Development Committee a district
meeting comprised of Rockingham, Guilford, Alamance, Caswell and Chatham
Counties. A coffee hour was held in the lobby of the old Courthouse. A tour
of the Historical Museum, Lake Orange and the Orange-Alamance Water System,
Inc. facilities was conducted. The group reassembled at Colonial Inn for
dinner and a program.

The Board of County Commissioners met in adjourned session in the Commissioners-
Room for a business session.

Discussion ensued relative to the merits of the Ambulance Service which was
being rendered by Ambulance Services, Inc.
The County Administrator reviewed the ambulance service proposals which had
been submitted from the Orange County Rescue Squad, the Durham Ambulance Service
and Ambulance Services, Inc.
Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was
moved and unanimously adopted, that the County allow its current contract with
Ambulance Services, Inc. to expire on December 31, 1968.
"Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was
moved and unanimously adopted, that Orange County sign a contract with Durham
Ambulance Services, Inc., for a term of one year, for ambulance service to the
Chapel Hill area, with the stipulation that the type of service to be rendered
by this company must substantially comply with the service-set'out"-by Plan "A"
of the.proposal submitted by Durham Ambulance Service to the Board of County
Commissioners and that the County would supplement the Durham Ambulance Service
in the amount of $29,300.
The County Administrator was directed to advise Ambulance Services, Inc.,
Durham Ambulance Service and the County Attorney of the action of the County
Board of Commissioners,-
There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting adjourned.

Gentlemen:
This letter is to notify you that the Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc.
Board cif Directors met on September 5th and by unanimous vote directed
the officers of this Corporation to make the following statements to you:
(1) That the next application that the said Orange-Alamence
Water System, Inc, will make to the Farm Home Administration,
for either loan or grant funds, said application will
contain a request for funds with which to build a reservoir
on Haw Creek, together with a tank and filter system, and
such lateral lines as will be necessary to serve said system.
(2) Before making any further expansion, other than those
mentioned above, and replacing those lines which may be
deleted from our present proposed system, the said Orange-
Alamance Water System, Inc. Will make application for funds
with which to start a sewerage system and the first sewer
lines will be installed in congested areas.
