PURPOSE: To consider authorizing the County Manager to execute a change order for the
field lighting to be installed at Northern Park.
BACKGROUND: In June 2007, the Board awarded the Northern Park Phase I contract to
Faulconer Construction in the amount of $1,427,281. This contract amount did not include the
designed playing surface lighting system. The overall project budget of $1,848,000 did
contemplate purchase and installation of this lighting system, contingent on beginning
construction and determining if sub-surface conditions (and the potential remediation of these
conditions) warranted budgeted funds. These soils remediation contingencies did not
materialize and the funds are available for the field lighting component.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The cost of the field lighting .change order is $128,600. Funding is
available within the project budget to support the expense.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize a change order
for lighting in the amount of $128,600; and authorize the Manager to execute this and future
change orders, as may be needed, to the extent of the capital project ordinance.
