ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Meeting Date: August 19, 2008 Action Age a item No. ~- SUBJECT: Housing Rehabilitation Contract Awards DEPARTMENT: Housing/Comm. Development PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: Bid Results; Work Specifications Tara L. Fikes, 245-2490 PURPOSE: To award housing rehabilitation contracts for the Orange County CDBG Scattered Site Housing Rehabilitation Program. BACKGROUND: The Housing and Community Development Department solicited bids from qualified housing rehabilitation contractors participating in the County's Housing Rehabilitation Program for the general repair portion of the work specifications. Bids were also solicited from lead based paint abatement contractors for items containing lead based paint as required by federal regulation. The informal bidding process is governed by the North Carolina General Statues §143-131 and does not require a minimum number of bids. Additionally, present program procedures provide that housing rehabilitation contracts be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder. Additionally, all contractors participating in the County's Rehabilitation Program are required to utilize current deconstruction and material recycling methods during the repair process. Bids were solicited from participating contractors for the housing repair work for the three properties and the required lead abatement work for the Starlite Drive property. Bid results are attached. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funds are provided by a CDBG Scattered Site Housing Rehabilitation grant awarded by the N.C. Department of Commerce and the HOME Investment Partnership Program. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board award the following housing rehabilitation contracts: Dwelling Unit Bid Amount Contractor 225 W.
