The Committee was requested to make a survey in order to plan towards the coordinating of the existing recreational programs and to generally offer assistance in the promoting of recreational acti$ity. The Beard requested that the oommittee submit a report of its activities and its findings early in the Spring of 1969. There being no flu-ther business to come before the Beard the meeting was adjourned to most again on Thursday, June 20, 1968. Harvey D. Sennett, Chairman S. M. Gattis, Acting Clerk MINUTES OF THE'ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS June 20, 1968 The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina met in adjourned session as duly advertised at 4 P.M. on June 20, 1968 for the purpose of canvassing the election held on June 18, 1968 in the South Orange Fire District Election. Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett and Commissioners William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker, and Ira A. Ward. Members Absent: Commissioner Carl M. Smith. ABSTRACT OF VOTING IN ARIA OF SOME ORANGE FIRE DISTRICT ELECTION OF JUNE 16, 1968 For the question of a tax for fire protection in South Orange Fire District Seventy Five Against the question of a tax for fire .protection 22 in South Orange Fire District Twenty Two Total Votes cast: 1 Ninety Seven Certified to be a'true and accurate count of votes cast on the above question in the election held in the South Orange Fire District, Orange County, North Carolina, on June 18, 1968 P C bell /a/ Nana Strar eg /a/ Nora Bails u e /a/ Pauline Harward u e BC K 7 FAGE 121 The Registrar in said district, Mrs. Mary P. Campbell, has filed proper returns of the results of said election, which returns show that there were a total of 97 votes cast and 75 votes were cast for the creation of the fire district, and 22 votes were cast against: ITOW, THEREFORE, in view of the above election the said South Orange Fire District is hereby duly created and will be ?mown as South Orange Fire District, and at the regular Commissioner's meeting to be held on July 1, 1968, three Commissioners will be appointed for terms of two years each in accordance with General Statutes 69-25.7. The foregoing resolutior_ was duly offered by Commissioner ,iarw seconded by Commissioner :fa l'-e_ , and unanimously adopted. The Register of Deeds reported on the legislative program which was being sponsored by the Register of Deeds Association. Miss Hayes requested that the Orange County Board of Commissioners endorse legislation relative to a state wide Uniform Fee Bill for the Register of Deeds office. Discussion ensued relative to the proposed bill. Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was moved and unanimously adopted, that the orange County Board of Commissioners did endorse the Uniform Fee Bill being sponsored by the North Carolina Register of Deeds Association. Chairman Bennett brought to the attention of the Board that the term of R. B. Fitch, Jr. on the Chapel Bill Planning Board would expire on July 1, 1968 and that the area in which W. S. Kyle lives was being annexed and therefore he would become ineligible to serve as a member of the Chapel Hill Planning Board. Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was moved and unanimously adopted, that J. Herbert Holland be appointed to fill the unexpired three year term of W. S. Kyle on the Chapel Hill Planning Board and that George A. Kellenburg be appointed for a five year term beginning July 1, 1968 expiring June 30; 1973 on the Chapel Hill Planning Board. The Clerk was directed to write letters of appreciation to R. B. Fitch, Jr. and W. S. Kyle for their service on the Chapel Hill Planning Board. Discussion ensued relative to the Dogwood Acres Sanitary District Trustees. The County Attorney advised the Board that the resolutions relative to these appointments had not been received from the Bond Attorneys in New York. There being no further business to come before the Board this meeting was adjourned to meet again on Monday, June 24, 1968 at 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 25, 1968 at 8 P.M. and Thursday, June 27, 1968 at 8 P.M. for the purpose of beginning budget hearings. Smith, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett and Commissioners William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker, Carl M. Smith arid Ira A. Vard. .. Members Absent: None This meeting was held at the request of the Town of Mebane in order that the two governmental units might discuss the water-sewerage project which currently is nearing completion. There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, June 25, 1968 in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
