PURPOSE: To proclaim September as United Way month in Orange County.
BACKGROUND: See the attached proclamation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of County Commissioners
proclaim September as United Way Month in Orange County and authorize the Chair to sign the
proclamation.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Proclamation of September, 2000 as United Way Month
WHEREAS it is the mission of the Triangle United Way to "increase the organized
capacity of people to caze for one another"; and
WHEREAS United Way funds health and human service programs in 28 Orange County
organizations; and
WHEREAS Orange County residents raised more than $1.2 million during the 1999
United Way Campaign to meet the needs of their neighbors; and
WHEREAS community support of the United Way really is the best way to do the most
good in the lives of those in Orange who really need help; and
WHEREAS it is evident that Orange County is a caring community, much like a family;
NOW, THEREFORE, we the Orange County Boazd of Commissioners proclaim
September to be United Way month in Orange County and urge citizens to
join in and actively participate in the United Way campaign and all of its
activities to continue making a difference in the lives of Orange County
citizens.
