BOARD OF COI°IMISSICNERS
November 27, 1967
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, November 27,
1967 at 3 p.m, in the Commissioners' Room at the Courthouse in Hillsborough,
North Carolina.
Members Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett and Commissioners William
C. Ray, Carl M. Smith, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward. '
Members Absent: None
This meeting was held for the purpose of discussing with the ambulance
operators in the county the nossibility of their continuing ambulance services
in their respective areas if a supplement for this service could be arranged.
Andrew Chavis, representative of Sharps Zuneral Home, stated that his
company was too small to assume any significent responsibility in the
ambulance service.
Bvnum Weaver, representative of Chapel Hill Funeral Horne, sent a message
to the Board that his company was interested in continuing their ambulance
service-
Dr. C. David Garvin introduced George Elliott, representative of the State
Health Department and Emergency Medical Services Coordinator, who had developed
the recent regulations relative to ambulance service ccerations. Mr. Elliott
explained to the Board the necessity for these regulations and then requested
the Board to inspect an ambulance brought from Randolph County. This ambulance
bore all of the necessary equipment required under the new regulations.
The County Administrator was directed to contact several ambulance services
to see if any of these companies would be interested in submitting a proposal
or bid to the county for ambulance service.
Discussion ensued concerning the need of an access road South of Chapel
Hill to the new Junior High School. It was suggested that the funds for the
construction of said road could be taken from the County Plan Money. ^.
Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was
moved and adopted, to request the State Highway Commission to construct an
access read from the Smith Level Road to the new Junior Hich School site,
funds for this project to be taken from the County Plan monies.
There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting
was adjourned to meet again on Wednesday November 29, 1967 S P.M. at the
regular place of meeting.
