Vicinity Maps PUBLIC HEARING: (Y /N) No INFORMATION CONTACT: Karen Lincoln, ext 2594 TELEPHONE NUMBERS: Hillsborough 732 -8181 Chapel Hill 968 -4501 Durham 688 -7331 Mebane 336- 227 -2031 PURPOSE: To consider NCDOT petitions for addition of realigned segments (new road alignments) of four (4) roads to the State Secondary Road Maintenance Program and the abandonment of maintenance /return of the old road segments (old road alignments that are no longer being used) of the same four (4) roads to property owners. BACKGROUND: Request: NCDOT requests Orange County to approve the new (realigned) segments of fou North Carolina secondary roads for addition into the State Maintenance Program and to approve the abandonment of state maintenance and rights -of -way containing the previous roadwa alignments. NCDOT has realigned portions of these roads in accordance with the NCDO Secondary Road Improvements Program, Paving Rural Unpaved Roads. The realignments were necessary to improve safety or to obtain needed right -of -way in conjunction with paving those roads. Location: Portions of the following secondary roads are affected: • Bane Road (SR 1337), Cheeks Township (.10 mi); • Baldwin Road (SR 1554), Eno Township, (.62 mi.); • Governor Burke Road (SR 1556 Ext.), Hillsborough Township (.05 mi.); • Hall Dairy Road (SR 1525 Ext.), Little River Township (.06 mi.). Development Process. Schedule. and Action: This is an administrative action needed t( document NCDOT's responsibility for maintenance for those road segments that have bees improved. Work has already occurred, and Bane Road, Governor Burke Road and Hall Dairy Roa( have already been paved. Baldwin Road is scheduled to be paved. The Board must decide whether or not to petition the State 1) to add the new road segments to the State Maintenance Program and 2) to approve the removal of the rights -of -way for the old alignments from thi state road maintenance program. The old rights -of -way have been repaired and seeded wit grass and ownership of those areas will revert to the property owner once the State abandons th right -of -way. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None to the County. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the above - referenced petitions for addition to and abandonment from the State Maintenance Program. ki 2a D EE.
