PURPOSE: To appoint two citizens of the Cedar Grove Fire District to serve as Trustees
to the Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department
BACKGROUND: A# the recent annual meeting of the Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire
Department, two Trustees were nominated, to replace two Trustees of the Cedar Grove
Volunteer Fire Department.
Taxes collected for fire protection go into a fire tax fund administered by the County
Commissioners. A three. member fire protection commission, known as Trustees,
appointed by the County Commissioners, may adminster these funds once the County
distributes monies to the respective fire departments for which they serve. Trustees
serve at the discretion of and under the County Commissioners. The County
Commissioners make all final decisions and set the tax rate for a fire district The
Trustees of a fire district, in actual practice, are advisory to the County Commissioners
only and have no authority to establish or change tax rates for fire protection.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: No financial impact will be incurred by this action.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the request
and appoint these citizens as Trustees to the Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
