PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid for general contract work in conjunction with
renovations at Planning $~ Agriculture Center, 306 Revere Road, Hillsborough.
BACKGROUND: ERCD has been intermingled with the Planning Department since it's
inception in1998. This renovation will create office space for the Department by enclosing the
front porch area of the Planning and Ag Building, thereby allowing them to consolidate their
offices into one area.
The renovation wi~:incarpocate:window units across the front of the porch area and will extend
approximately to~:westedge of the Soil and Water offices. ERCD new walls constructed as
part of the reno~.w~l be finished with drywall, the area will be carpeted and will have
suspended ceilir~Hith lay-in lighting fixtures. An entrance corridor will provide entry into the
building at the present location. The project is anticipated to take from 30-60 days and
contractors are ready to begin immediately.
The Planning Department will expand into the area vacated by ERCD. Additional minor
renovations, outside of the scope of this contract, will occur within Planning and the vacated
space after ERCD has moved.
Plann+ng, ERCD;-Public Works and Purchasing Department-sta#s evaluated existing space and
developed plans and specifications that would best address space needs. Bids were solicited
pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes. Bids were sent out to six prospective contractors.
A pre-bid conference was held on January 28, 2000. Patriot Builders of Hillsborough, North
Carolina submitted the lowest responsive bid at a cost of $54,464.00. A tabulation of the bids is
attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funds are available within the current operating budgets of Planning
and ERCD.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board award the bid to Patriot
Builders of Hillsborough, North Carolina in the amount of $54,464.00; approve the contract
contingent upon Attorney and Staff review; and authorize the Chair to sign an behalf of the
Board.
