PURPOSE: To present checks to local artists and arts organizations receiving 2002 North
Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Grants.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Arts Commission, as an approved Designated County
Partner (DCP), sub grants Grassroots Grants to local arts organizations from funding provided
by the North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program. Funds are distributed for arts
programming that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of the County. Each organization
receiving a Grassroots Grant matches the grant amount with local dollars in order to receive an
award.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact on Orange County as this action represents
a pass-through of State funds.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge the local
recipients of the awards during the November 6, 2002 meeting with the presentation of checks
by the Board Chair Barry Jacobs.
