HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19661010i MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY 493 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS October 10, 1966 The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met in adjourned session at the County Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina, at 8:00 P.M. on Monday, mctober 10, 1966 in the Commissioners room. Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, William C. Ray, Carl M. Smith, and Henry S. Walker. Members absent: None This meeting was held for the purpose of deciding what action the Orange County Board of Commissioners should take in order to assist with the passage of the proposed Water and Sewerage Bonds election which is being held on November 8, 1966. The County Administrator submitted a list of ways and means by which to aid in the passage of the Water and Sewerage Bonds. He was authorized by the Board to implement these proposals, or as many as could be completed before the said election. It was also agreed that members of the Board would accept invitations. to talk before Civic Clubs or any interested groups in order to explain the necessity of the County's position pertaining to the Water and Sewerage Bond election. Bennett Chairman Betty June Hayes, Clerk FOR OCTOBER 11i 1966 MEETING SEEPAGE 497 MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS October 17, 1966 The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met in adjourned regular session at the County Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina, the regular place of meeting, at 8:00 o'clock P.M., on October 17, 1966. Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, William C. Ray, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Walker. Absent: None Also present: Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds and ex officio Clerk of Board of Commissioners and S. M. Gattis, County Accountant. The Register of Deeds and ex officio Clerk of the Board of Commissioners presented certified copies of resolutions which had been received from The Orange County Board of Education and the Chapel Hill City Board of Education. Thereupon Commissioner Smith introduced the following order authorizing bonds which was read: ORDER AUTHORIZING $3,000,000 SCHOOL BUILDING BONDS WHEREAS, The Orange County Board of Education has certified to this Board a resolution passed on October 3, 1966, showing that adequate school facilities are not now available in Orange County to comply with the requirements of Section 3 of Article IX of the Constitution of North Carolina for the maintenance of schools six months in every year, and that it is necessary, in order to maintain such six months' school term as required by said Section 3 of Article IX of the Constitution to erect additional school buildings and other school plant facilities, remodel, enlarge and reconstruct existing school buildings and other school plant facilities and acquire necessary land and equipment therefor to provide additional school facilities in said County, the estimated cost of which is $1,000,000; and
