PURPOSE: To consider a resolution of appreciation for Kate Dixon, who recently resigned
as Executive Director of the Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) after 11 years.
BACKGROUND: On June 30, Kate Dixon, having completed 11 years with Triangle Land
Conservancy (nine as Executive Director), resigned to pursue other interests. When Ms.
Dixon started with TLC, she was the first full-time staff member. During her leadership, the
organization grew to 2,000 members and its endowment to $600,000. The annual State of
Open Space report, initiated during her tenure, is recognized for its value to regional
conservation -and Ms. Dixon has been involved in the preservation of over 4,000 acres.
In addition to being a regional leader for open space and conservation, Ms. Dixon has been
greatly appreciated locally within Orange County, serving on many advisory committees and
helping set the stage for a variety of County/TLC partnership projects -such as the Little
River Regional Park and an item on tonight's agenda, Steep Bottom Branch. TLC created
the Johnson Mill preserve in the Rural Buffer, and holds easements on lands such as Maple
View Farm and the Lloyd-Andrews Farmstead. Ms. Dixon's leadership with TLC set the tone
for current and future partnership opportunities between focal governments and land trusts.
A resolution of appreciation for Ms. Dixon's accomplishments and for her fostering of a
legacy of partnership and conservation within Orange County is attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the resolution
of appreciation for Ms. Dixon, and thank her for her many years of valuable service to the
County and the region.

RESOLUTION OFAPPRECIATION -KATE DIXON
WHEREAS, Kate Dixon served as the Executive Director of the Triangle Land Conservancy
(TLC) for 11 years before stepping down in June of this year to pursue other interests; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure leading TLC, the conservancy grew to over 2,000 members
and has been involved in the preservation of 5,335 acres across the region, and
WHEREAS, Kate has been a particular friend to conservation efforts in Orange County and
the Lands Legacy Program by her willingness to explore partnerships between land trusts
and local governments on projects such as Little River Regional Park and Steep Bottom
Branch; and
WHEREAS, Kate Dixon's willingness to work collaboratively has also led to other joint project
opportunities that will be forthcoming between TLC and the Lands Legacy Program; and
WHEREAS, Kate Dixon's leadership role will be greatly missed at Triangle Land
Conservancy;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners
expresses its deep and heartfelt affection for the work of Kate Dixon as Executive Director of
the Triangle Land .Conservancy, and for her willingness to provide assistance and consider
partnerships with the County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board wishes Ms. Dixon well in her future endeavors,
and hopes that she will continue to work in conservation projects in the region and provide
her valuable expertise in other ways.
