Wednesday, August 24, 1966 at 8 otclock p.m. in the Commissioners Room at the
Courthouse in Hillsborough, N. C.
Members present: Chairman Harvey Bennett, Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland,
William C. Ray and Henry S. Walker.
Members absent: Commissioner Carl M. Smith
Lawrence Alley, the consulting engineer, retained by the County to design a
water and sewer system to the proposed industrial area east of the Town of Mebane
in Orange County made a report to the Board. Mr. Alley stated that his written rep
on the proposed project should be received by the Board within the next week. The
report, as presented, showed that the water system designed by Mr. Alley would cost
approximately $310,000.00 and that the sewer system would cost approximately
$90,000.00. It was decided, that until the complete and official report could be
secured no detailed information concerning the project would appear in the minutes
of the Board of Commissioners. Discussion ensued concerning said report.
Upon motion of Commissioner Cleveland, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was
moved and unanimously adopted:that, Orange County proceed with the necessary
arrangements for a referendum on the question of issuing $650,000.00 in water and
sewer bonds to be used for the financing of the Lake Orange Project and the
Industrial Area Project.
Upon motion of Commissioner,Ray, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, it waF.
moved and unanimously adopted, that Chairman Bennett be authorized to sign an
application for Workmen Compensation Coverage for persons employed in a Work-
Training Program being financed by a Title V Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 Grant,
There being no further business to come before the board was adjourned to
meet again on Tuesday, August 30, 1966.

MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
August 30, 1966
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Tuesday,
August 30, 1966 at 8:00 P.M. in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in
Hillsborough, N. C.
Members present: Chairman Harvey Bennett, Commissioners William C. Ray, Carl''
M. Smith and Henry S. Walker.
Members absent: Commissioner-Gordon B. Cleveland.
Officials of the Town of Hillsborough and the Orange Alamance Water Company
were present to discuss with the Commissioners the proposed water line and sewer
system which is to be located in the western section of Orange County and just east
of the Town of Mebane.
Wiley Perry, Vice President of the Water Company pointed out the willingness of
his company to construct water and sewer facilities and serve the proposed
industrial area, however, he could give no definite date on which this service might
be made available to the proposed industry. He stated that, in his opinion, the
service could be furnished within a relatively short period of time.
Chairman Bennett again pointed out, to the assembled group, the previous
committments made by Orange County to assure that this service was provided to the
designated area during the summer of 1967. .
Discussion ensued concerning the matter. There being no further business to
come before the Board said meeting was adjourned.
