PURPOSE: To consider reappointing Jo Roberson as Orange County Tax Collector for a two
year term, effective July 1, 2003.
BACKGROUND: Chapter 105-349 of the North Carolina General Statutes requires the Board
of County Commissioners to appoint a tax collector "for a term to be determined by the
governing board". Orange County's practice has been to make appointments to the office of
Tax Collector for two-year terms. Ms. Jo Roberson was originally appointed Tax Collector in
January 2000 to complete the unexpired term of Ginger Rolfe, ending June 30, 2001. She was
subsequently reappointed for the term July 1, 2001 -June 30, 2003.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board reappoint Jo Roberson
as Orange County Tax Collector for a period of two years, effective July 1, 2003.
