PURPOSE: To renew the agreement with the UNC School of Dentistry for pediatric dental
residents for the health department.
BACKGROUND: The Health Department utilizes the services of a pediatric Dental Resident
one day per week to extend the services of the department to very young children, generally 3-5
year olds. The pediatric dental residents allow the department to treat these younger children
and those children with more complicated dental problems. The resident treats approximately
14 children each day for a total of 672 children that otherwise would not be seen. This contract
remains at the same level as previous years at a total cost of $2,400 per year to the County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The annual cost of the contract is $2,400 per year for one day per week
for 48 weeks. This amount has been included in the department's budget request for fiscal year
2003-2004. There is no change in this amount.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the agreement
subject to the approval of the 2003-2004 budget and authorize the Chair to sign.
