BACKGROUND: Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute (NCGS) 153A-40, the Board of County Commissioners must fix the time and place of its meetings or provide a notice of any change in the Meeting Schedule. It is proposed to conduct a special meeting at 9:00 a.m. on July 28, 2026 to discuss the BOCC vacancy and to appoint a commissioner to fill the seat. The meeting will be held at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill. It is proposed to move the location of the August 25, 2026 Business Meeting from Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough to the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m., as previously announced. It is also proposed to hold a special meeting on August 25, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, prior to the Business Meeting. The topic for the special meeting is a closed session pursuant to NCGS § 143-318.11(a)(6), "to consider the qualifications, competence, performance, character, fitness, conditions of appointment, or conditions of initial employment of an individual public officer or employee or prospective public officer or employee; or to hear or investigate a complaint, charge, or grievance by or against an individual public officer or employee." FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item.
