SUBJECT: Updating BOCC Boards and Commissions Assignments for 2026

PURPOSE: To update BOCC Boards and Commissions Assignments for the remainder of 2026.
BACKGROUND: County Commissioners serve on various County and County-related boards
and commissions. Due to the passing of Commissioner Jamezetta Bedford, the Board will need
to consider appointing other Commissioners to the boards and commissions on which she was
serving.
• Board of Social Services
o Only County Commissioner position; Oath of Office necessary
o NEXT MEETING: July 20, 4:00 pm (in person at Hillsborough Commons)
o REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE: Third Monday of each month at 4:00 pm
• Central Pines Rural Planning Organization (CPRPO) Technical Advisory Committee
(Alternate)
o Alternate County Commissioner position allowed by TAC bylaws, but is not required;
Commissioner Portie-Ascott is the designee
o NEXT MEETING: August 13,12:00-1:30 pm (virtual attendance option available)
o REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE: Second Thursday of every other month at 12:00

• Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees
o Only County Commissioner position; Oath of Office necessary
o NEXT MEETING: August 18, 3:30-5:00 pm (Lyon Board Room, Building 5, Main
Campus)
o REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE: Typically, the third Tuesday of every other
month at 3:00 pm
• Fire Chiefs' Association
o Non-voting position
o NEXT MEETING: September, but date is To Be Determined
o REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE: First Wednesday of every other month at 7:00

• Justice Advisory Council
o One of two County Commissioner positions required by BOCC action establishing
the JAC; Commissioner Hamilton is the other designee
o NEXT MEETING: August 28, 12:30-2:00 pm (virtual)
o REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE: Quarterly meeting typically held on a Friday at
12:30 pm
• NC-513 Continuum of Care (CoC) Governing Board (formerly Orange County Partnership
to End Homelessness Leadership Team)
o One County Commissioner position required by the board's Governance Charter
o NEXT MEETING: July 20 at 6:00 pm (virtual)
o REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE: Third Monday of each month at 6:00 pm
• Solid Waste Advisory Group
o One of two County Commissioner positions required by BOCC action establishing
the SWAG; Commissioner Hamilton is the other designee
o NEXT MEETING: August or September, but date is To Be Determined
o REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE: Meetings are typically held quarterly, but dates
are TBD

RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board discuss and select
Commissioner(s) to serve on the listed boards and commissions and formally approve the
assignments.
