HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19660628MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS June 27, 1966 455 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special.session on Monday, June 27, 1966, at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Members present: Chairman Harvey Bennett, Commissioners Gordon Cleveland, William C. Ray and Carl M. Smith. Members absent: Commissioner Henry S. Walker. This meeting was held for the purpose of budget discussion with the members of the Orange County Welfare Board and Tom Ward, Welfare Director. Discussion ensued concerning the proposed welfare budget. No action was taken. There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, June 28, 19662 at 9:30 a.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse as a Board of Equalization and Review. The Orange County Board of Commissioners convened as a Board of Equalization and Review on Tuesday, June 28, 1966, at ten o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners .; room at the courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, and William C. Ray. Members absent: Commissioners Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Walker. Upon motion of Commissioner Clevel and, seconded by Commissioner Ray, it was moved and unanimousl y adopted that George Spranzy be re-appointed as a member of the Chapel Hill Boar d of Adjustment for a three year (3) term effective July 1, 196 There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was adjourned to meet ag ain on Wednesday, June 29,11966 at 7:30 o 'clock p.m. in the Commissioners room a t the courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Gattis, Acting Clerk MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS June 29, 1966 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Wednesday, June 29, 1966, at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Members present: Chairman Harvey Bennett, Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, William C. Ray and Carl M. Smith. Members absent: Commissioner Henry S. Walker. This meeting was held for the purpose of budget discussions with Dr. Willard Swears, Superintendent of the Chapel Hill Administrative Unit, and members of the Chapel Hill School Board. Dr'. Swears presented the proposed budget and requested that the followiing amendments be added to the proposed Capital Outlay Budget which had been previously submitted. Proposed amendments: $400,000.00 for a new elementary school $ 22,602.70 to replace money previously allocated that was used to construct a sewer line $ 20,000.00 to purchase four W additional school busses $ 75,000.00 as a capital reserve fund to be used at Frank Porter Graham School if a proposed Federal program to be 'instituted at said school is not approved Discussion ensued concerning said proposed budget and the proposed amendments. Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, it was moved and unanimously adopted that, the Special School Supplemental Tax rate be increased from 179 to 20¢ per one hundred dollar valuation.
