Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, the two
road programs as presented by the representatives of the State Highway Commission
was unanimously accepted.
There being no further business to come before the meeting same as adjourned
to meet again on Thursday, June 23, 1966, at 7:30 p.m. with the County Board of
Education to discuss their 1966-67 budget.

MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
June 23, 1966
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Thursday,
June 23, 1966 at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in
Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners William C. Ray,
Carl M. Smith, Gordon Cleveland and Henry S. Walker.
Members absent: None
This meeting was held for the purpose of budget discussion with the Orange
County School Board and G. Paul Carr, Superintendent of the Orange County School
Unit. Discussion ensued concerning the proposed school budget. No action was
taken.
Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was
moved and unanimously adopted that, Howard M. Compton be re-appointed to the
Orange County Welfare Board for a three (3) year term. Said term to become
effective as of July 1, 1966.
Chairman Bennett read a letter from George Spransy representative of the
American Field Service of Chapel Hill. Mr. Spransy requested permission to hold a
fireworks display on Fetzer Field at the University of North Carolina on July 4,
1966.
The Board directed.the Clerk to issue to Mr. Spransy a permit which would give
permission to the American Field Service of Chapel Hill to hold a fireworks display
at Fetzer Field on Monday, July 4, 1966.
There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was
adjourned to meet again Monday, June 27, 1966 at 7:30 p.m. with the County Welfare
Board to discuss their proposed 1966-67 budget.
