PURPOSE: To receive the County Manager's presentation of his recommended County
operating budget for FY 2003-04.
BACKGROUND: The County Manager will present highlights of his recommendations for the
County's 2003-04 operating budget. The Manager and staff will respond to preliminary
questions that Commissioners may have about the proposed budget. No Board decisions are
required at this time. The Board will shape the final 2003-04 budget following two public
hearings on May 29 and June 5, and during five budget work sessions scheduled between June
10 and June 23, 2003. The County's 2003-04 budget ordinance, grant project ordinances, and
County and school capital project ordinances are tentatively scheduled for adoption at the final
budget work session on Monday, June 23.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact directly associated with this presentation.
However, the presentation is the starting point for what will become the Commissioners'
financial blueprint for the new fiscal year starting July 1, 2003.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the presentation
for information only at this time.
