BACKGROUND: The N.C. Department of Public Safety partners with the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) to galvanize community leaders, locally and statewide, to reduce and prevent juvenile crime. JCPC members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). Members represent nineteen (19) different fields/organizations, and the BOCC may also appoint up to seven (7) at-large members. The management of this Board's membership and appointment terms has recently transitioned to the Clerk's Office, so staff is still in the process of gathering age range and township information for each member. Before now, the BOCC approved the JCPC membership as part of the approval of the JCPC Annual Plan each year. Historically, the JCPC has not submitted an Annual Report and Work Plan. I have past experience serving on both state and local committees on mental health and substance use prevention and interventions. I was involved in the initial work around Rx and opioid misuse, starting in 2011, through Healthy Carolinians and OPADFY. I was on the original NC Opioid and Prescription Drug Abuse Advisory Council (OPDAAC), and served on the Community Engagement committee which created the State s first and second Action Plans. Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board Having a family member with OUD and many friends who experienced losses, I am deeply concerned and committed to this cause. Using my past experience as Program Director of a local nonprofit dedicated to reducing and preventing substances, and my experience serving at the NC OPDAAC How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints? Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board Serving on JCPC for many years now has provided me experience necessary to continue serving, as I adjust to retirement.
