HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19660506MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS May 6. 1966 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Friday, May 6, 1966, at 4:30 o'clock P.M. in the Commissioners Room at the courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Members present:. Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, William C.-Ray, Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith. Members absent: None Representatives of the Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc. were present, these were: June Crumpler, Wiley Perry, Turner Forrest, Robert Nichols, Lacy Gibson, Supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration and L'. A. Alley, Engineer for the Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc. Mr. Crumpler stated that if Orange County and the Town of Mebane proceeded with its present plans for water service to the proposed industrial area, that these plans; would impair the plans currently being considered by the Orange- Alamance Water System, Inc. as it would curtail the number of water customers that could be serviced by the Orange-Alamance Water System, Inc. This curtailment would jeopardize the loan, which the Water System, Inc., had made through the Farmers Home Administration. This loan is needed in order for the Water System, Inc. to proceed with their water project plans. Mr. Crumpler further stated that the Water System, Inc. could manage satisfactorily if Orange County and the Town of Mebane constructed the water line to the industrial site but refrained from extending the water line along Highway 70 to the Perry Hills Subdivision. He states that the Water System, Inc. would offer to purchase any facilities that the County of Orange and the Town of Mebane might construct and that the Water System, Inc. would- agree to allow the Town of Mebane to continue the servicing of the proposed industry by renting its line for ten cent (10c) per one thousand (1000) gallons of water transported to the industry. Chairman Bennett assured Mr. Crumpler and the other representatives of the Water System, Inc. that Orange County's only desire, in this matter, was to secure water and sewer service to the proposed industry. That the county had no intention of trying to put the Water System, Inc. out of business, however, it did appear that the Water System, Inc. had not secured the necessary financial approval for its proposed water project plans and that their plans did not include sewer service to the proposed area. Chairman Bennett brought to the attention of the representatives the need for both sewer and water facilities, and stated that Orange County, through necessity, must continue its investigation of ways to provide these facilities to the designated industrial area. There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was adjourned to meet again on Monday, May 16, 1966. Harvey D. Bennett Chairman Betty June Hayes, Clerk S. M. Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners, Gordon B. Cleveland, William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith. Members absent: None This meeting was held for the purpose of meeting with the Officials of the Town of Mebane, in order, to receive a report from the Study Committee appointed to study possibilities of providing water and sewer facilities to the industrial area located just east of the town of Mebane.
