Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, William C. Ray and Henry S. Walker. Members absent: Commissioner Carl M. Smith. In order to comply with the-provision of G.S. 105-294 relative to the adoption of an assessment ratio the Tax Supervisor recommended the adoption of a 70% assess- ment ratio for the calendar year of 1966. Discussion ensued. Upon motion of Commissioner Cleveland, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was moved and unanimously adopted that the 1966 tax assessment ratio be set at 70%. Commissioner Cleveland stated that he personally favored an assessment ratio higher than the adopted 70%; however, he felt selection of an assessment ratio was a matter that should be undertaken only when a revaluation occurs and the interim assessment ratio should remain the same unless unusual developments occur making a change in the ratio necessary. The Board of Commissioners then adjourned and reconvened as a Board of Equalization and Review. E. M.
