Orange County Visitors Bureau — A Gathering of Voices The Orange County Visitors Bureau is developing a 48-page commemorative book titled "A Gathering of Voices." The publication highlights stories from Orange County residents that illustrate how the county has evolved since the bicentennial. Topics include advancements in transportation, LGBTQ relations, accessibility, and other areas demonstrating community progress. The book is designed to be accessible and story-driven (not scholarly), with each entry limited to approximately 400 words. Proposed Programming The book would serve as the foundation for several public events throughout the year, such as: • Public readings and discussions at venues like the Colonial Inn, Carolina Inn, libraries, and bookstores • Media engagement and celebratory elements (e.g., "Happy 250th" recognition) • Potential integration into other event programming (July 4th events, etc.) Commissioners may also consider having selected excerpts read at a BOCC meeting. This initiative emphasizes storytelling, community reflection, and public engagement while providing positive media exposure for Orange County during the America 250 celebration. 300 W.Tryon Street, Hillsborough, NC 27278 1 www.orangecountync.gov 1 919.732.8181 2 ORANGE COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA 2.
