BACKGROUND: The Adult Care Home and Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee works to maintain the intent of the Adult Care Home and Nursing Home Residents' Bills of Rights and promote community involvement and cooperation with these homes to ensure quality care for older and disabled adults. The Board of County Commissioners appoints all fourteen (14) members. REMINDER: As of July 1, 2017, House Bill 248 was adopted by the North Carolina General Assembly regarding the training period for pending members of the "Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee and Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee". Applicants will be selected from the County "Applicant Interest List" for a condensed training and, if the applicant successfully completes the training, they would be recommended for appointment. Therefore, when an applicant is recommended for appointment, it would initially be for a one-year preliminary term and the training will have already been completed. Both members recommended for reappointment have completed their one-year preliminary terms. As a nursing student, I have gained a solid foundation in community health, and worked with social workers and case managers to connect patients with community based resources. I have planned and implemented evidenced based interventions for diverse communities. I have organized sustainable campaigns that empowered individuals to make informed decisions. Engaged in fireside chat conversations with community members to talk about homelessness, domestic violence, and exploitation of our aging community members. As a domestic violence survivor myself, I knew that the only way that I survived and thrived is because of the help and resources that I was connected to. I want to be able to contribute the same to our community members. I also volunteer as a postpartum doula to families and single parents that cans€TMt afford a doula service after given birth. Connect them to accessible community resources for diapers, food, baby clothing and many more. I offer the gift of time to these families&single birthing persons, with the hope that they get sometime to do something for themselves (sleeping, take a long bath, calling family and friendsa€;..). This document will inform the BOCC of the activities each board/commission has conducted over the past year and detail a plan for future activities. These activities should be consistent with the board/commission's assigned charge and the goals identified in the Orange County Strategic Plan (Strategic Plan). Serve all the Adult Care Homes and Nursing Homes in Orange County and work with each facility to protect resident rights. 3. What are your board/commission's most important accomplishments during the report period? 16 Maintained a stable and collaborative committee of dedicated community members who visit Orange County adult care and nursing home facilities each quarter. Continue to recruit committee members while overcoming the obstacles of the time commitment of training and facility visits with follow-up. CAC has managed to maintain staff to meet responsibilities at a high level. Participating in continuing education activities each month to further CAC member education. Resumed posting visitation reports online. 4. Please list any specific tasks, events, or functions performed or sponsored annually. Each quarter, committee members submit visitation reports for all long term facilities in Orange County to our Central Pines Regional Ombudsman, Charlene Purkett for distribution. Committee members are also required to submit continuing education reports to Regional Ombudsman, Charlene Purkett, Central Pines. 5. Committee members have established relationships with administrators and key staff members and have been able to provide community resources along with best practices 6. Describe any collaboration between this board/commission and other boards and commissions. Co-chair is a member of the Aging Board and attends monthly meetings and reports on CAC progress. 17 7. The CAC in 2026 will continue to emphasize resident quality of life.
