HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda - 09-20-2005-9e2ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMIS510NERS ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Meeting Date: September 20, 2005 Action Agenda Item No. 9- e- a SUBJECT: Transfer of Development Rights Taskforce- New Appointments DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No ATTACHMENT(S): Under Separate Cover Membership Raster Interest List Application(s)/Resume(s) of Person(s) on the Interest List INFORMATION CONTACT: Clerk's Office, ext. 2130, 2125, 2126, 2129 TELEPHONE NUMBERS: Hillsborough 245-2130 Chapel Hill 968.4501 Durham 688-7331 Mebane 336-227-2031 PURPOSE: To consider making new appointments to the Transfer of Development Rights Taskforce, BACKGROUND: Initial appointments were made for this taskforce on June 23, 2005, The objectives of the TRD Taskforce are to: 1, Sustainably balance rural and urban areas; 2, Direct growth and development away from important natural and cultural resources and towards areas more able to support municipal services and urban densities; 3, To provide working farms with an alternative income potential; and 4, To link zoning densities to comprehensive plan goals and policies, Taskforce members may be chosen from the following general sectors, including, but not limited to: local governments, advisory boards, banking and finance, private sector community/neighborhood groups, utilities, developers, lawyers, agriculture, planning, natural areas advocacy, real estate, and environmental protection, Previous appointments to the TDR taskforce have filled the majority of sectors suggested by the consultant, Having been in recent conversation with the consultant, staff recommends that the TDR Taskforce will be an efficient board at approximately 15 members. The remaining stakeholder sectors yet unfilled include; the local government, utility, advisory board (i.e. regulatory, e,g. Planning Board) and possibility natural areas advocate if the existing appointee in that sector cannot attend, There are applicants attached that can fulfill these interest areas.
