Agenda
1) Call to Order- Denise Duffy called the meeting to order at 6:39pm.
Board members present: Denise Duffy,John Bemis, Krista Berner, Renee Hayes, Lindsay Metivier, Heather
Washburn, Katie Murray, Linda Williamson,
Board members absent: Crystal Wu, Gideon Young, Francesca Talenti,josh Rosenstein,Wendy Smith
2) June Board Minutes will be reviewed at the August meeting.
3) Board updates Katie Murray
a) Alex Gast was approved by BOCC so will join us in the Fall.
b) Katie reached out to Johnathan Hamiel about board service. They had to reschedule their meeting.
c) The Board reviewed Ashley Nissler's application. Linda made a motion to accept Ashely. Denise seconded.
Passed unanimously.
4) Updates: Katie Murray
a) Mill Update- Katie spoke with Frank Gaylor,who is the owner of the Mill and rents to the county. He thinks
the remediation could be done this year,which is great news. He and the County officials are working
together on standards for remediation. Money donated since the flood will help art needs due to flood
losses - current donation levels are over$30,000.
i) Denise and Eric T. are meeting to create an artist survey on damage/losses from the flood. Board
members provided input on questions for the survey.
ii) Katie reported that the outpouring of resources from the community has been great.
iii) The potential Cloth Mill project is on hold right now since The Expedition School will be using that space
in the short term for their school.
b) Uproar is on! -the event is moving forward.Activity is well underway. Fund-raising has taken a hit. Katie is
still interested in finding other business sponsors to help fill the fund-raising gap. Kickoff party was moved
to the Eno River Brewery. Welcome Center in Hillsborough was moved to Library in Hillsborough.
c) Common Good Event- in August but moved to the Art Center. It is an online auction.
d) Paint it Orange - alternative location has been determined --Tom Stevens has offered his gallery.
5) Grants Katie Murray
a) Grant applications are down this year. 36 total applications - 14 artist applications and 22 grass roots. The
board discussed possible reasons why the applications might be down.
b) Katie confirmed schedules for the grant panels and rescheduled the Finance panel.
c) We will approve/fund at the August Board Meeting

a) UNC Student Liaison Update, no one to report
b) Chapel Hill Arts Commission, no one to report
c) UNC-no update Crystal Wu
d) Hillsborough Arts Council -no update John Bemis
e) The ArtsCenter -no update Wendy Smith
f) Carrboro Arts, no update Wendy Smith
g) Visitor's Bureau, no update Wendy Smith
h) Orange County Artists Guild Heather Washburn
OCAG is plugging away with tour plans. Guild is discussing ads vs sponsorship model for the program.The
Arts Commission got a lot of benefit from our ads in early tour programs.
i) Carolina African American Writers'Collective/Carrboro Poets Council Gideon Young
