PURPOSE: To consider one appointment to the Advisory Board an Aging.
BACKGROUND: There are two vacancies on the Advisory Board on Aging: one, At-Large and one,
Chapel Hill Township. There is also an upcoming vacancy in a Chapel Hill Township seat when Ms,
Florence G. Soltys rotates off the Board on June 30`h.
A letter of recommendation has been submitted to the Clerk's office for the At-Large vacancy for Dr.
Janice Wassel, of 5204 Riley's Ridge Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278,.
Recruitment is in process for the other vacancies; several applications are on the interest list and those
are being reviewed by the Advisory Board on Aging Membership Committee.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): Consider making an appointment(s) to the Advisory Board an Aging to an
At-Large position, first term, expiration June 30, 2007, or as the Board of County Commissioners may
decide.

Subject: Board Appointment
The Orange County Advisory Board on Aging reviewed all applicants far the
Aging Board At-large Position #6 that was vacated upon the resignation of Ms
Vicki Tilley. At the April 14th Aging Board meeting, the Board recommended Dr.
Janice Wassel to fill the position # 6 vacancy which term expires on 06/30/04
and that she be appointed to a full year term to expire on 06/30/07.
Dr, Wassel is a resident of Hillsborough Township and is presently the Director
of Gerontology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
She also has years of volunteer service with many organizations relating to aging
issues and serves on committees far The Institute of Aging in North Carolina a
UNCCH. Dr. Wassel has expressed interest in being involved with the
development of the new Senior Centers. With bath her volunteer service and
professional experience, she will be an asset to the Advisory Board on Aging,
