HomeMy WebLinkAboutOCAC Minutes 08-11-2024 Orange County Arts Commission August 12, 2024 Minutes Attendees: Crystal Wu, Chair, Linda Williamson, Sec, Marc Miller, Wendy Smith, Denise Duffy, Vice chair, Heather Washburn, Saba Jordan, Josh Rosenstein, John Claude Bemis, Gideon Young, Krista Bremmer, Lindsay Metivier, Alexa Velez, and Katie Murray. Absent: Cellia Gibbs Meeting Location: The Eno Arts Mill 1. Call to Order at 6:34pm by Crystal. 2. John moved to approve the July 2024 Board Minutes and Lindsey seconded. All approved. 3. Director's Report: Katie reported that there is a lot going on within the department. However, she is only going to touch on a few items to leave plenty of time to discuss the grant awards. a. Triangle Artworks Creatives Happy Hour Aug 20, 6-8pm —we will be hosting the first one of these events at The Mill. It will bring in a lot of people that have not been to The Mill before.These events have a good size and diverse crowd. She needs a few more of us to volunteer as "bartenders". b. Harvest Fest Aug 31 at Blackwood Park—We will be handling alcohol sales for Sonark Media's "HarvestFest" happening at Blackwood Park Saturday Aug 31, which will raise money for the OCAA. More volunteers are needed to work the event. We will be checking IDs and serving drinks. c. Paint it Orange—8t" Annual Paint It Orange will be the first week in October. Two paint out windows this year (weekend before the event and the standard Wed — Friday). It will be a very big event at The Mill and we are looking for sponsors. d. Eno Mill i. Financial report for end of FY24—The Mill ended the year with a small positive amount even with expanding the scope and budget in 2024. We brought in more programming and sales revenue than budgeted although rent was under budget. Studio Be— Program is very good, but enrollment is still low. Board discussed what could be done to increase participation and provided suggestions to Katie. e. Sept meeting date conflict—Crystal made a motion to cancel the September board meeting due to conflicts and was seconded by Josh. All approved by the board. We agreed to review any emails from Katie very carefully in order to be informed of events/news during September. 4. FY 2024-25 Grant Discussion —after a detailed review of the artist and organization grant scores, the board approved the following motions: • Artist Grant Applications-Josh moved that we go forward with scenario 1 presented during the meeting, which fully funds applications that scored above 80%. Gideon seconded. Board approved. • Organization Applications— Linda made motion that scenario 4 presented during the call with scores above 45% be funded with 90/75/60 percent arrangements. Josh seconded the motion. All approved. Note: artist and organization scoring matrixes have different scales. 5. Crystal adjourned the meeting at 8.33pm.
