Attendees: John Claude Bemis, Lindsay Metivier, Linda Williamson, Sec, Crystal Wu, Vice Chair,

Meeting Location: Eno Arts Mill
1. Call to Order at 6:45pm by Crystal Wu, Vice-Chair.
2. Lindsey moved to approve the January 2024 Board Minutes and Crystal seconded.All approved.
3. Board updates
a. Wendy Smith—will be presented this Thursday for review/approval. Katie also
announced that Wendy was named Executive Director of The ArtsCenter, which the
board was very excited to hear announced.
b. Board Current& Upcoming Vacancies:
i. All March 15Y term board members have agreed to stay on for a second term.
ii. Anita and Fred will be leaving the board since their second terms have expired.
iii. Positions, 7, 12, 13 will need to be filled. Katie reviewed the list of potential
applicants. Discussed liaison with Chapel Hill Arts Commission since Josh's term
with that board is ending in June. A few additional names were discussed.
4. Director's Report
a. Eno Mill
i. Katie presented a brief second year operating update comparing year 1 to year
2 of the Mill.All major areas are up.

ii. Studio Updates—5 new artists in the studios. Only one studio is still open in the
back, which rents for$288/month.
iii. Update on Gallery policies— Katie implemented the new policies we reviewed
last month. She talked to the OCAG about the change to just one show a year
and OCAG was fine with the change. She also spoke to others about shows and
the gallery standard operating policy, which the staff is documenting and
publishing.
iv. Open Call is out now for 1.5° C show in April.The call is for artists that work with
recycled materials or the impact of climate change. Open for one more week.
The county Office of Sustainability is going to have a purchase award for the
show. Attendance should be high so Katie and team will need lots of
volunteers.
b. Big Night In 2024 will take place March 7th. We need sponsors also there is a watch
party for$500 donors.
c. OCAA
i. A new point of sale application is needed and Katie asked if anyone had
experience with a product.The board had a few recommendations.
ii. Bookkeeper needed for the alliance.Josh has a lead for Katie.
5. Liaison Reports
a. UNC Student Liaison Update—no update
b. Chapel Hill Cultural Arts Commission—the town is currently reviewing applications for
the Library/Cultural Director. Staff for the Arts and Cultural award program is currently
in the process of reviewing the 11 applicants.
c. UNC—Crystal updated that UNC is on their wellness break currently. She reviewed
numerous cultural events coming up on campus including, "PAST FORWARD: NATIVE
AMERICAN ART FROM GILCREASE MUSEUM" at the Ackland, Christian McBride, Faye
Driscoll and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater all this month at Carolina Performing
Arts. PlayMakers is showing "Fat Ham".
d. Hillsborough Arts Councils—John announced that HAC has a new Executive Director
Heather Tatreau,who we are all very excited for. The Solstice walk was another big
event for HAC, earning$14,000.John encouraged all of us to go their fund-raising event
on March 23, which was a great event last year.See website for tickets/details.
e. The ArtsCenter—Wendy said 2nd Friday Art Walk was a big success. The gallery show is
great, and they have an Afro futurism show going on.The ArtsCenter Gala is coming up
March 16th at the Hall River Ball room—live auction and silent auction online. Wendy
encouraged us all to attend or participate in the online silent action. Arts camp is up and
running for registration. Winter Art school is going well.
f. Carrboro Arts—Wendy reported the town is working on an outdoor art inventory and
reviewing their arts internship program that runs in the summer.
g. Visitor's Bureau—Katie reported that Laurie Paolicelli hosted an event at Carolina Inn to
discuss the Visitor's Bureau survey data results. Across the board community felt that
Tourism is doing a good job and has value across our area. Arts and Culture were ranked
high.An interesting area of need was more festivals and events. County is wrapping up
the strategic plan and Katie has been making sure the arts are included everywhere in
the report.
h. Orange County Artists Guild— Katie reported that the guild will only accept 10 to 12 new
artists from the new applicants.
