1. Call to Order at_6:41_by Crystal Wu
2. Welcome New Board Members
a. Sadie Allen, UNC Liaison
3. Krista moved that June 2023 Board Minutes be approved, and Lindsay seconded. All approved.
4. Board updates Katie Murray
a. Board orientation Wed. September 27, 6pm
b. Request to move September meeting to Sept 18 -- it is the funding meeting for grants.
i. TBD on location. Could be at the arts center.
5. FY23-24 Grants Cycle Katie Murray
a. Follow-up regarding Kidzu allocation for 2023 which was awarded out of the outside
organizations funds directly without going through our arts organizational process. Back
in June, Krista/Anita drafted an email to Bonnie, County Manager, who has now
responded. Issue was discuss. Next step is Katie will update us after talking to her
manager.
b. Grant applicants breakdown & panels
i. Review a breakdown of the grant applications for 2023.Volumes of applicants
and award money is like last year.A portion of the grass roots money for this
year from the state will be used to fund a new staff person at the Eno Arts Mill.
c. Panel Dates:
i. Literary Arts:Tues.,Aug 29 5:30-till, at the EAM
ii. Performing Arts: Wed.Aug 30 5:30-till at the EAM
iii. Visual Arts:Thurs.Aug 31 5:30-till at the EAM
d. Guest panelists—Katie need suggestions and she would really like dancer or film person
based on the applications and especially a person of color.
6. Director's Report Katie Murray
a. Reclass of position—Katie got her position reclassified and a good raise.The board
congratulated her and said how much we know she deserved it.
b. New staff position—approved and posted. Position is posted through Sunday of this
week.
c. Eno Arts Mill FY23 -We had about a $4000 net profit this year.The board celebrated
this accomplishment.
d. OCAC Program Funds for FY24 - not good news is the program funds for 2024 were less
than expected.Arts Alliance is working to raise money before the end of the calendar
year in order to help plug gaps in FY 24 program.
e. Uproar—huge success. 31,000 views of google maps 4K physical maps, over 6K votes.
700 trolley participants, lots of uproar visitors came to welcome center. Feed back
session later to go over lessons learned.
7. Liaison Reports
• UNC Student Liaison Update—Sadie shared FallFest is coming up where arts organizations share
what is going on around campus.
• Chapel Hill Cultural Arts Commission—Josh said not a lot going on with summer wrapping up.
Still doing Movie under the stars series. Meeting later this month to kick things off for the Fall..
• UNC—Crystal reported that Ackland has a new exhibit, PlayMakers seasons is starting,there is a
very interesting line up for Carolina Performing Arts. There is a Hip/Hop festival. School starts
Monday
• Hillsborough Arts Councils—John reported that the arts council is "in the thick of it" with Last
Friday events.
• The ArtsCenter—got their permits today for the new center. Grand opening on the 26th of
August 12 to 4pm. A theatre company will be renting the old arts center space.
• Carrboro Arts—nothing
• Visitor's Bureau—no meeting in July so nothing to report.
• Orange County Artists Guild— no updates.
6) Board member updates—board members shared updates with activities and events they are
associated with.
