BACKGROUND: Michael F, Easley, Governor of North Carolina, has proclaimed the week of June 20 through 27, 2004, as Amateur Radio Week in North Carolina, in recognition of the licensed amateur radio operators who have demonstrated their value in public assistance by providing emergency radio communications free of charge to the residents of this State, Orange County Radio Amateurs provide critical communications to the residents of Orange County and the State during times of emergency and have a workspace located at the 9-1-1 Emergency Operations Center. Orange County Radio Amateurs provide a valuable service to the residents and make Orange County a safer place to live, FINANCIAL IMPACT: None, RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the Proclamation and authorize the Chair to sign it, ORANGE COUNTY BOARI2 OF COMMISSIONERS AMATEUR RADIO WEEK A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina has more than 21,000 licensed Amateur Radio operators who have demonstrated their value in public assistance by providing emergency radio communications; and WHEREAS, these Amateur Radio operators donate these services free of charge to the residents of North Carolina and the world; and WHEREAS, these Amateur Radio operators are on alert for any emergency, local or world- wide, and practice their communication skills during the Field Day exercise of the American Radio Relay League, Inc.; and WHEREAS, this year's Amateur Radio Field Day will take place .June 26-27, 2004; and WFIEREAS, Michael F. Easley, Governor of North Carolina, has proclaimed the week of June 20-27, 2004, as Amateur Radio Weelc in North Carolina; NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the week of June 20-27, 2004, as "Amateur Radio Week" in Orange County, North Carolina, in honor and recognition of Orange County Radio Amateurs and the important contribution they make to the safety and well being of Orange County residents.
