Board Members present: Fred Joiner, Chair,Delia Keefe, Secretary; Crystal Wu, Lindsay Metivier,Justin

Board Members absent:Anita Mills, Vice-Chair, Sarah Shore, Sean Bailey, Hannah Fatool, Krista Bremer,
Brad Porter
Staff Present: Katie Murray, Executive Director
1) Fred called the meeting to order at 6:34 pm.
2) Linda moved to approve the January minutes
as amended. Crystal seconded. The minutes were approved.
3) Board member discussion
a) Katie would very much like to have representation from
the ArtsCenter on the board. Justin made a motion to
vote on the acceptance of the application of Mark Bettger,
Deputy Director of the ArtsCenter, to the board. Marlon
seconded. The vote was unanimous in favor. This is
Position#4 for a partial term. This will go before the
county commissioners.
b) Position#15 is a full term position beginning 4/1/22.
This is in progress as Katie makes some connections.
4) Director's Report:
a) State funding updates
Orange County will receive $140,000 over the next two years.
The county is required to sub-grant$70,000 out to the
community. The other$70,000 could fund another full-
time staff member. This position would focus on operations
and grants management. The position would be community facing.
b) DEI program update
This program is on hold right now. This is the next priority after
hiring another full-time staff person.
c) Eno Mill update
During November and December 65 people took classes. In
October,November, and December there were $10,000 in
art sales. We will resume openings in March.
We are looking for summer camp instructors. We are working
with Title I schools for advance registration.
The group show in April, Home, will include visual artists and
writers. The show will address housing issues which is a very
relevant issue for artists.
Some projects are on hold until we have new staff hours.
d) OCAA update
Strategic planning is in progress. We need a bookkeeper with
new consignment experience.
e) Big Night in 2022
We need help finding sponsors for this March 10th event. Please
contact Katie before you approach any business in case we have
already approached them.
5) Special presentation: Forthcoming public art festival
We need a new name rather than The Beacon for this festival. The
festival will be delayed until July of 2023. It will take place in the
downtown areas of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough. This
festival will provide free and accessible art and will generate foot
traffic.
A stipend will be paid to all artists involved and public input will be
prioritized in choosing winners. This community-wide event is in the
early planning stages.
6) Liaison reports
a) UNC Student Liaison Update
b) Chapel Hill Arts Commission
The commission is looking for clarity from the town for funding for
public art maintenance.
c) UNC
New at Playmakers is Yoga Play.
And there is a new exhibit at the Ackland—Peace, Power,
and Prestige: Metal Arts in Africa.
There is an MLK lecture on February 26tH
d) Hillsborough Arts Council
The Handmade Market and Parade will take place on April 30th
e) The ArtsCenter
f) Carrboro Arts
g) Visitors Bureau
It is important that the OCAC has representation on the Visitors
Bureau. Let Katie know if you are interested
h) OCAG
Music reviewers are needed to assist the Durham Arts Council.
