Board Members present: Fred Joiner, Chair, Anita Mills, Vice-Chair, Delia Keefe, Secretary; Sean Bailey,
Crystal Wu, Lindsay Metivier, Hannah Fatool, Justin Haslett, Marlon Torres, Sarah Shore, John Bemis
Board Members absent: Linda Williamson, Dan Mayer; Krista Bremer, Brad Porter
Staff Present: Katie Murray, Executive Director
1) Fred called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm.
2) Justin moved to approve the October minutes.
Crystal seconded. The minutes were approved.
3) 2022 Board Officers discussion
a) Chair: Fred Joiner, 3rd of 3 possible terms
b) Vice-chair: Anita Mills, 2nd of 3 possible terms
c) Secretary: Linda Williamson, Pt of 3 possible terms
John moved to approve these appointments.
Justin seconded. All were approved.
4) Director's Report:
a) Eno Mill Update
i) Monthly openings—volunteers needed.
Volunteers are needed for monthly openings. The
second opening went very well. Katie hopes that
the board members will make their best effort to
attend openings. It is very welcoming to have board
members greeting people, mingling, and guiding visitors.
ii) Name for openings.
We need to name the openings. The Hillsborough Arts
Council does not want First Fridays at the Mill. Think
about a name.
iii) Classes update
We are slowly rolling out classes and workshops. We are
looking for performance and literary arts instructors. Please
connect Katie with recommendations. Pricing is high and
is not accessible to many. We need to work this out.
b) Arts in Education Grants
Grants are delayed. We are trying to work with the Carolina
Theater. Details still need to be worked out.
Note—At this point in the meeting, Fred took the opportunity to
acknowledge Katie's tremendous success in opening the Mill.
Katie is committed to making the space accessible to all.
5) Liaison reports
a) UNC Student Liaison Update
Student theater is back in full swing. Carolina Theater at the
ArtsCenter is well attended. Dance and improve are doing well
with good attendance and covid precautions.
b) Chapel Hill Arts Commission
The commission is fighting for the 10% dedication to the arts
decreed by town ordinance in connection to the new multi-use
building on Rosemary St.
c) UNC
Alison Friedman has been named director for Carolina
Performing Arts and Arts Everywhere. Playmakers held it's first
show this weekend with extended invitations to many frontline
workers.
d) Hillsborough Arts Council
The Solstice Lantern Walk on December 21St will be in person.
The Handmade Parade will be held the last weekend in April.
The first workshop for the parade will be held December 1 at the Mill.
e) The ArtsCenter
f) Carrboro Arts
g) Visitors Bureau
VRBO and Airbnb are doing well in the western part of the state.
Hotels are not.
h) OCAG
The tour is back with good sales. December 31St is the deadline for
applications to the guild.
6) December holiday gathering
Possibility—outside at Anita's.
7) Board member updates
Paint it Orange. 54 participants. 85 pieces of art in the show.
Median price about $300.
Fred adjourned the meeting at 7:31 pm.
