Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners
June 1, 1965
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Tuesday, June 1, 1965,
at 3:30 p.m., in the office of the Superintendent of the Chapel Hill City Schools, with members of
the Chapel Hill School Board.
Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, William C.
?.ay, Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith.
Members absent: None.
The purpose of this meeting was to consider the bids for the new Chapel Hill High School.
After a tabulation of the bids and alternates and consideration of available funds in the hands
of the School District, it was discovered that the Chapel Hill Unit would need about $200,000.00 of
local money to complete this project.
Upon motion of Commissioner Cleveland, seconded by Commissioner Smith, and unanimously adopted,
the Board agreed to appropriate to the Chapel ?sill School Unit, in category 68, at least $200,000.00
in the 1965--1966 fiscal year.
Chairman Bennett was then requested by the Chapel Hill School Board to give them a letter setti:
out the intentions of the Board as stated in the previous motion, so that they can present said letter
to the State Board of Education. This request was granted.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
