PURPOSE: To consider increasing the monthly stipend for the ABC Board members and ABC
Board Chair effective July 1, 2004,
BACKGROUND: In 2003 the ABC Board proposed that the Board's monthly stipend increase
to $200 ($2,400 annually) for Board members and $250 ($3,000 annually) for the Board Chair.
Under North Carolina General Statute 186-700(g), a local ABC Board member "...may be
compensated as determined by the appointing authority." The appointing authority for the
Orange County ABC Board is the Board of County Commissioners.
Orange County ABC Board members presently receive a monthly stipend of$50 ($600
annually) for Board members and $100 ($1,200 annually) for the Board Chair. Attached is a
chart showing the current Orange County stipend, ABC Board 2003 proposal and stipends paid
by other area ABC Boards. Based on this, the Manager recommends the monthly stipends for
Orange County Board members increase to $75 ($900 annually) and to $125 ($1,500 annually)
for the Board Chair.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for the increases will come from ABC Board revenue.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board increase the ABC Board
stipends as shown below effective July 1, 2004,
1. Increase the ABC Board member monthly stipend to $75 ($900 annually) and
2. Increase the ABC Board Chair monthly stipend to $125 (1,500 annually).
