7:05 IV. State of the Environment- Discussion
CFE members will discuss,ask questions,and seek advice from previous CFE members and staff
for the upcoming SOE. Previous CFE members and staff will include Bradley Saul,Johnny Randal
Rich Shaw,and Brennan Bouma to inform the CFE on previous processes and actions.
8:05 V. New CFE Member/Applicant Discussion
Wesley Poole will provide a PDF to the current applicant pool of the CFE. Members are
encouraged to review before the next meeting to allow for preference selection. (Attached under
separate cover)
8:15 VI. Sub-Committee Breakouts
The CFE will break out into committee assignments and discuss goals/projects for the year.
Committees will report on projects upon returning to the main meeting.
8:40 VII. Updates and Information Items
Staff and/or CFE members will provide updates on the following items:
• Hillsborough Green Team-April Climate Challenge
Town of Carrboro v. Duke Energy Corp. Lawsuit(John Bucher Letter)
Public Hearing 1/16 On UNC DEQ Application to Burn Pellets at Chapel Hill Cogen Plant
• Art and Sustainability event this Spring
Tree giveaway program
Any other new information from CFE members and staff

Present: Kristie Mather, Mark Randall, Jane Harris (via Teams), John Bucher, Regina

I. Call to Order
Chair Regina Baratta called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.
II. Additions or Changes to Agenda
Aimee Vandermark informed the CFE that she was hosting a Forest Bathing Session on
December 141h at Clear Wind Farm from loam-12pm. Kristie Mather informed the CFE
that UNC would be holding a meeting to amend their air quality permit on January 17th,
2025.
III. Approval of DRAFT Meeting Summary—November 11th 2024
Motion to approve by Matthew Ferguson; seconded by Mark Randall; all in favor; none
opposed; motion passed.
IV. CFE Annual Report and Work Plan -Discussion
Chris Hirni presented the draft for this year's BOCC Report and Work Plan. The CFE
discussed and finished drafting. Upon completion of the document, Kristie Mather
motioned to approve; seconded by Ian Morse; all in favor; none opposed; motion passed.
V. State of the Environment Report-Discussion
David Stancil began by giving a history of the State of the Environment Report and then
answered questions that the CFE had. The CFE discussed and then went around the room
and voted if they wanted to take it on, if they should seek funding to have an
environmental consultant do the work, or if they should coordinate with grad students to
help. The majority of the members agreed they wanted to take it on themselves. Regina
Baratta will send out a survey to members inquiring what they would like to see in the
report and reach out to those that helped with the last report to see if they would like to
come speak at a future meeting.

VI. Sub-Committee Breakouts
Skipped due to shortage of time.
VII. Updates and Information Items
• Melony Gilles gave a recap of the Repair Cafe to the CFE. It was a success and
approximately 70 people attended. Everything from furniture to jewelry was there for
repairs.
• Melony Gilles and Karina Nabors notified the CFE of the new sustainability intern
projects that were coming up. There will be two interns...one will be working on
transportation and the other on resource conservation.
• Wesley Poole notified the CFE that next year's Nature of Orange Photo Contest
would be themed"My Place in Nature" and asked the CFE if they would like to co-
sponsor with PRC again. Regina Baratta motioned to sponsor; seconded by Ian
Morse; all in favor; none opposed; motion passed.
VIII. Adjournment
Kristie Mather motioned to adjourn the meeting at 9:04 pm; seconded by Matthew
Ferguson; all in favor; none opposed; motion passed.
