C. Hirni will present the draft for this year's BOCC Report and Work Plan.The CFE will discuss
and vote on the final draft. (Attached under separate cover). Action Needed
7:35 V. State of the Environment Report- Discussion
The CFE will discuss previous iterations of the State of the Environment Report and determine
the baseline for the sub-committee breakout discussions for the 2025 report.
8:05 VI. Sub-Committee Breakouts
The CFE will break out into committee assignments and discuss goals/projects for the year.
Committees will report on projects upon returning to the main meeting.
8:45 VII. Updates and Information Items
Staff and/or CFE members will provide updates on the following items:
• Sub-Committee Report
• Recap of Repair Cafe
• New Sustainability Intern Projects
Any other new information from CFE members and staff

Present: Kristie Mather, Mark Randall, Jane Harris, John Bucher, Regina Baratta, Lily

L Call to Order
Chair Regina Baratta called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm.
II. Additions or Changes to Agenda
Chris Hirni asked if Abby Mattingly could present the results of the Nature of Orange
Photo Contest before Chair and Vice-Chair nominations and Chair Regina Baratta
approved.
III. Approval of DRAFT Meeting Summary—October 14', 2024
Motion to approve by Kristie Mather; seconded by Jane Harris; all in favor; none
opposed; motion passed.
IV. Nature of Orange Photo Contest Results
Abby Mattingly thanked the CFE for co-sponsoring the Nature of Orange Photo Contest
this year. She then presented the results of the contest for the Adult and Youth categories.
V. Chair and Vice-Chair Nominations and New Members
Mark Randall nominated Regina Baratta to remain as Chair; seconded by Patrick
Fn'Piere; all in favor; none opposed; motion passed. Jane Harris nominated Ian Morse to
replace her as Vice-Chair; seconded by Lily Schacht; all in favor; none opposed; motion
passed.
VI. CFE Annual Report and Work Plan—Discussion
Chris Hirni presented the template for this year's BOCC Report and Work Plan. The CFE
discussed and began providing recommendations for next year's goals. They did not
finish so this work with carry on to the next meeting in December.

VII. Community Climate Action Grant Round 4—Ranking
CFE members continued to discuss ranking for the Community Climate Action Grant and
came up with the following recommendation for the BOCC: $19,800 for Empowerment;
$22,600 for Eno River Association; $50,000 for Habitat for Humanity; $12,000 for
Jubilee Healing Farm; $50,000 for Solar Equity; $50,000 for Trees for the Triangle; and
$58,100 for Urban Sustainability Solutions. The CFE only had $262,500 to work with so
many were not funded and some only partially funded. The CFE worked to draft
comments to explain their reasoning. Jane Harris motioned to approve the
recommendation; seconded by John Bucher: all in favor; none opposed; motion passed.
VIII. Updates and Information Items
• Chris Himi notified the CFE that discussion and work on the State of the
Environment Report was coming next meeting, so get ready.
• Regina reminded the CFE that at the next meeting there would be a small celebration
so bring something to share if you want.
IX. Adjournment
Jane Harris motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 pm; seconded by Mark Randall; all
in favor; none opposed; motion passed.
