BACKGROUND: The charge of the Animal Services Hearing Panel Pool is to hear appeals concerning violations of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 4 ("Animal Control Ordinance"), as provided in the Orange County Code of Ordinances, Section 4-53 Appeals, and also potentially dangerous dog appeals as prescribed by North Carolina General Statute §67- 4.1(c). It is the responsibility of pool members to conduct fair and impartial hearings for these appeals and they will receive training in both law and proper procedure prior to participating in a hearing. The Board of County Commissioners appoints twelve (12) members, with representation from various fields. There are also two (2) members representing the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough. I also recently completed an internship with the Parks, Recreation, and Community Resources Department for the City of Raleigh where I gained a great understanding of what frontline parks and recreation employees are doing to improve our communities. I spent time with the Specialized Recreation and Inclusion Services, the Learning Development, the DEI, the Environmental Education, and the Downtown Maintenance subdivision over the course of the summer. I am currently a second year MPA student with a concentration in Local Government at UNC Chapel Hill. Here I have learned about the structure of municipal government and have gained a great understanding of how to interact with both elected officials and local government staff. Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board I want to serve on this board because I think that parks and the ability to recreate are some of the most important things that a community can offer to it s citizens. How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints? I am a young person, currently pursuing an MPA with a concentration in Local Government at UNC-CH. With my background in serving on a Parks advisory board in my hometown along with the frontline work I have done with the Raleigh Parks department, I have a great understanding of both what residents and people my age are looking for in programming and facility offerings as well as what staff are experiencing and what they need from the county for support.
