Can submit more information by email for inclusion as an agenda item for discussion at a future meeting. General Public Comments (not on agenda): Dr. Elliott Cramer from Friends of OCAS – has donated money in past for medical facilities at OCAS and Pat Sanford grant and would like to contribute more. He has not received updates from ASAB or OCAS in recent years and would like to re-establish this connection. Pledges $2000 to continue Pat Sanford grant fund. Tiani Stamey will forward ASAB meeting summaries to keep Dr. Cramer informed going forward. Monthly Meeting Attendance Record: Confirmed through approval of meeting minutes. New Business: 1. Pat Sanford grant - $500 given annually to groups that help animals in Orange County. The grant is in honor of Pat Sanford, former Executive Director of the former Animal Protection Society of Orange County. Decision by Page 3 of 5 committee needs to be made by November 15. Judy Miller, Michael Dempsey, Sunita Driehuys are ASAB members who volunteered to be on this committee. Tiani Stamey and Krista Watkins will be the OCAS staff members on the committee. This year’s applicants are Independent Animal Rescue and PetPalsNC. 2. Orange County Boards and Commissions Annual Report – ASAB needs to submit annual report by January17, 2025 and this will be presented to BOCC in February or March. Tiani Stamey, Interim Director of OCAS, will prepare the report and it will be presented by Allan Polak as chairperson of ASAB. Page 4 of 5 Animal Services Advisory Board: Current Vacancies 1. Currently have 1 vacancy on ASAB – Town of Hillsborough position. 2. Roni Peterson and Michael Dempsey were both appointed to ASAB by BOCC. Old Business: Youth delegate committee – members have been working on action items and will present proposal to ASAB at our next meeting. Information Items: Presented by Tiani Stamey 1. Dr. Strong’s last day at OCAS was Oct 4. She received an award as 2024 Leader of the Year for the National Animal Care & Control Association prior to leaving. 2. New director position is open and expected to be filled early 2025. 3. Events to support OCAS – Trunk or Treat, rabies clinic. 4. ACOs recently attended a professional development workshop and found it beneficial. 5. Holly Meyer has moved to the Orange County Finance Dept, so Krista Watkins has been internally promoted to position of Business Officer. 6. The Dog Enrichment Pathway is in progress – working on plantings, agility features, scent features. 7. OCAS had chili cook-off event as a staff social event. 8. Live release rates and capacity are still good for both cats and dogs. 9. OCAS is accepting pet food donations for Western NC relief efforts. 10. OCAS is acquiring an electric vehicle for Animal Control and Training manager. Informal Discussion: Discussion among members about helping Western NC post Hurricane Helene with hay and supplies for animals. Dr. Pickett and Dr. Jarrod have been involved with veterinary help in Western NC.
