November 2, 1964
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, November 2, 1964,
at 10:00 o'clock a.m., in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
Members present: Chairman Donald M. Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, Gordon B.
Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Waller.
Mmbers absent: None.
The minutes were read and approved.
The Board requested the Clerk to write a letter of appreciation to Bryan Smith, former
Assistant Farm Agent, for his services to the County.
County Farm Agent, Ed Barnes, and Assistant Farm Agent, Cyrus Green, made a report of the
farming activities in the County. Mr. Barnes submitted the following list of Orange County residents
for appointment to the Agricultural Extension Advisory Committee:
Mrs. B. F. Spencer, Route 2, Chapel Hill, N. C.
George Widner Thompson, Route 3, Box 57-B, Mebane, N. C.
Harry P. Woods, Route 2, Hillsboro, N. C.
Joe Compton, Cedar Grove, N. C.
Robert Kirk, Route 3, Hillsboro, N. C.
The Board appointed these persons for a term of three (3) years.
James Wight, Welfare Director, presented the following Aid to the Blind Agenda:

The following department officials submitted reports for the month of October, 1964:
E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court
Cashe Boggs, Dog Warden
Tom Bivins, Veterans Service Officer
Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds
The County.Administrator advised the Board that James Freeland, local contractor, was no longer
interested in the Walker Building. The Board offered the material in the Walker Building to a local
group headed by Margaret Jones, provided the group arrange for demolition of the building before any
other alternatives were offered to the County.
The following road petitions were submitted, and the clerk was authorized to forward them to
the State Highway Commission:
Carolina Avenue & Second Street, in Eastwood, Hillsboro, N. C.
The following bids were submitted for four (4) automobiles for the Sheriffla Department:
$4,200.00, plus tax Yates Motor Company Plymouth Fury T
Pursuit Special
$5,436.00, including tax Harris-Conners Chevrolet Biscayne
Chevrolet Company
$4,185.00, including tax Ray Motor Company Ford Custom 500
Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, and unanimously
idopted, Ray Motor Company was awarded the bid for four (4) Sheriff's cars.
Dr. Hubert Patterson, Orange County Medical Examiner, reported the following for October, 1964:
deaths from natural causes, 2 deaths from automobile accidents, 1 suidide, and 3 autopsies performed.-
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
