ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES
July 19,2021
THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON MONDAY: July 19, 2021 virtually.
BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Pat Garavaglia, Jane
Garrett, and Oscar Fleming.
GUEST: None.
BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: Earl McKee.
STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; and Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager.
I. Call to Order and Introductions
DSS Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, called the meeting to order at 4:03 pm.
II. Board Comments
The Board welcomed Oscar Fleming to his first official meeting as a Social Services Board Member.
Pat Garavaglia asked about the reopening of County facilities. Nancy Coston responded that Public
Information Officer, Todd McGee, has been posting updated hours to the website as well as putting the
information out on social media.
III. Public Comments
None.
IV. Agenda Changes
Tamara Dempsey-Tanner added Medicaid Audit Update and Board Member Orientation and New
Board Member to the agenda.
V. Action Items
On a motion by Pat Garavaglia, the Board approved the minutes of June 2021. Oscar Fleming
seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent.
VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision
1. Medicaid Audit Update
Lindsey Shewmaker updated the Board on the third month of the Recipient Eligibility Determination
Audit (REDA). The county had zero findings in the month of June with zero paybacks.
2. Board Member Orientation and New Board Member
The Board discussed filling the upcoming vacancy of Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner. They also
talked about ensuring new members received training and orientation.

Pat Garavaglia made a motion that the Board move into Executive Session pursuant to §
143-318.11(a)(6). Jane Garrett seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent.
VII. Announcements
Tamara Dempsey-Tanner moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:59 pm. Jane Garrett seconded the motion. The
motion was carried without dissent.
