BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Pat Garavaglia, Susie Enoch, Ann Wilkerson and Jamezetta Bedford. GUEST: None. BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: None. STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; and Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager. I. Call to Order and Introductions DSS Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, called the meeting to order at 4:02 pm. II. Board Comments Pat Garavaglia asked that the Board take a minute to recognize the passing of Donna Baker, Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners. Tamara Dempsey-Tanner gave an update on the status of Board applicants. She thanked everyone for their participation in the process and announced that the top two candidates were being contacted to schedule interviews. III. Public Comments None. IV. Agenda Changes None. V. Action Items On a motion by Pat Garavaglia, the Board approved the minutes of July 2020. Ann Wilkerson seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision 1. Director’s Report Nancy Coston updated the Board on current agency operations and continued response to COVID- 19. Utility assistance requests are increasing and child care has become a large issue as families try to figure out plans for school age children and remote learning. Most DSS staff are still working from home. Skills Development is not officially open based on the Governor’s phases but staff are beginning to work on a soft reopen plan so more clients can receive employment services. 2. Executive Session MINUTES ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES August 17, 2020 2 Tamara Dempsey-Tanner made a motion that the Board move into Executive Session pursuant to § 143-318.11(a)(6). Pat Garavaglia seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. VII. Announcements Tamara Dempsey-Tanner moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:30 pm. Susie Enoch seconded the motion.
