RE: Settlement Report
The purpose of this memorandum is to report the terms of the settlement of Laverne
Thompson v. Orange County as previously authorized by the Board of Commissioners
in closed session.
North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(3) provides that when the settlement of
litigation is authorized or considered in closed session the terms of the settlement will
be entered into the minutes of the public body as soon after the settlement is concluded
as is reasonable.
Laverne Thompson v. Orange County settlement concluded August 2024. This is the
case of a former health department employee. The terms of the settlement with Ms.
Thompson include a full and final payment to Ms. Thompson by the County in the
amount of $62,325.16 in return for a full and final release of all future claims by Ms.
Thompson against the County.
